Homosexuality :
Homosexuality : God has created humans for the sake of reconstructing the earth and the continuation of the human race, and this is the core route for the continuation of life on earth and this is done through the marital relationship; which is divided according to the principles and legal foundations in all the heavenly religions. However, sometimes the sexual behavior goes away from the regular path and common sense.
Throughout the history of psychiatry, numerous abnormal sexual practices have been diagnosed as “sexual diseases” as indicated by the DSM classification of mental illnesses.
For example for those sexual diseases: “Sex with children or with the dead, Incest, Masturbation, Practicing with animals, Sexual identity disorder and Homosexuality.”
History of Psychiatric Diagnosis of Homosexuality :
Nowadays we are facing homosexuality, which is viewed as one of the most questionable topics in psychiatry, while previous psychologists diagnosed homosexuality as a mental illness because of several reasons, including:
The presence of factors that prevent a normal sexual relationship with the opposite sex. For example:
- Preventing sexual education and repression through school and family.
- The child’s vision to his mother and father during an intimate relationship increases sexual repression.
- A sense of lack of sexual capabilities.
Factors that encourage a homosexual relationship. For example:
- “Feeling that he is not wanted by the opposite sex, so he turned to the same sex.”
- The practice of homeopathy in order to obtain money.
There are also a group of scientists pointed out that homosexuality might be because of an imbalance in the sex hormones, it is known that the human body has the two kinds of male and female hormones, but in different extents according to his gender. If one of the hormones increases over the other, the actual activity of the individual is male or female according to the person’s gender.
Learned Factors:
During adolescence and puberty, many changes occur that a teenager goes through and gets close to his friends of the same sex, and this might be formed into a homosexual relationship.
Beside the theory of disease or “Pathology” which assumes that homosexuality is a disease and is caused by:
- Hormonal imbalance.
- Endocrine functions.
- The extra relationship with the mother.
- Because of tough relationship from parents towards children
- A genetic defect.
- Difference and imbalance in the formation of the brain between male and female.
- There is a theory (sexual aggression) that assumes that homosexuality is due to their exposure to sexual abuse at a young age.
All of those theories are based on the thought of Homosexuality is a serious disease.
- There is the analytical school whose theory was based on the principle that homosexuality is not a disease but rather a defect in sexual growth and development, so a person or child faces a stage of sexual orientation for the same sex in one of several stages… and a person who does not enter this stage becomes homosexual, it is a problem and not a disease.
But in either case, whether an illness or a growth problem and a defect in healthy sexual development, we are supposed to do something to treat them.
- And there are those who contradict those theories and said that this phenomenon exists in all human societies and others, and therefore it is considered from the existing human diversity and not necessarily a disease or a problem that needs treatment.
- The sexual role that the male or female plays in society is what has formed the fixed pattern in the minds of people and that the sexual relationship must be in the form of a male with a female for the continuation of the human type, and any image contrary to this perception is considered by many an anomaly and necessarily a disease.
- So psychiatry at the beginning of the twentieth century and the beginning of the fifties was influenced by Freud’s theory, which is that homosexuality is a defect in the development and sexual development and considered a problem.
Also everyone who came after Freud from among the scholars continued to adopt this guidance in psychiatry. In 1952 the American Psychiatric Association issued what is known as the DSM, which is the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Psychiatric Diseases. It considered homosexuality to be classified as a mental illness and continued to be published until 1973.
The scientist “Alfred Kenzi” before him, studies on homosexuality were conducted on psychiatric patients only, but this scientist made studies on normal people and found the existence of this phenomenon by 10% in most societies.
There are also the two scientists, “Ford and Beach” who conducted studies on animals and studies showed that homosexuality is present in animals.
The gradual shift in the diagnosis of homosexuality:
Before those studies, homosexual groups accepted that they were psychiatric patients according to the diagnostic manual, instead of considering it a satanic thing or a moral defect, taking into account the religious theory and society rejecting them for their violation of religion and morals.
But after studies that proved that there are no differences between the sexes accordingly in 1970-1971 at the annual forum of the American Psychiatrists Association, there were many demonstrations by the Gay Rights Association calling for a change in the stigma of homosexuals that they are psychiatric patients because all the studies that worked had their results proving that they are not Patients, and there is no hormonal, genetic or mental difference between men and women, and therefore they demanded a change in the classification that homosexuals identified as sick. One of their objections is that many diseases have been diagnosed as a disease and it is not a psychological disease, and it is very likely that you misdiagnosed us as homosexuals as diseases related to society and religion.
In 1973, the Psychiatric Association summarized that there is no evidence that sexual orientation of the same sex leads to qualitative differences between the sexes. Yes, these differences may cause problems for societies to accept them for social and religious considerations, but other than that, there is no difference between them and the normal. This result is the cause of many oppositions and protests in the field of psychiatry, especially the Psychoanalytic Association, who were influenced by Freud’s theory that homosexuality is the lack of sexual development and growth in one of the sexual stages of the individual and demanded a vote on the following:
- Are the procedures taken by the “World Health Association Psychiatry” to verify that homosexuality is considered as a mental illness or not is right or wrong?
The vote was that the procedures were sound by approximately 58%, and thus the second version of the “Statistical Manual of Diagnosis of American Psychiatric Diseases” was the removal of homosexuality from diseases or mental disorders.
And now, in many places and societies, there has been a difference of claims from the Gay Rights Association based on the recognition of psychiatry that homosexuality is not a disease to understand the claims of their marriage and the fullness of their rights.
Homosexuality from the USA view:
After homosexuality was forbidden in many American states, where in July 1973 the state of Maryland issued a decision prohibiting same-sex marriage, becoming the first US state to ban gay marriage in the United States, followed by several other states such as Virginia (1975), Florida, California, Wyoming (1977) and New Hampshire. (1987) In June of 2015, the US Supreme Court issued a decision to legalize gay marriage in all parts of the country, in a move welcomed by homosexual societies and described by US President Barack Obama as a “victory.”
Judge Anthony Kennedy, speaking on behalf of the majority of members of the Supreme Court, wrote that in the name of equality of all before the law: “Amendment No. 14 stipulates that every state concludes marriage contracts between two homosexuals and from 2015 until now the rights of homosexuals in the United States of America are increasing, which made the United States American pressure on other countries to recognize homosexuals as a third sex and give them their rights.
Homosexuality in Turkey:
Since Recep Tayyip Erdogan came to power in Turkey in 2014 and had his own tendency to support homosexuals, although his ruling party “Justice and Development” had an Islamic background, but it seems that his desire to get closer to Europe and his bitter attempt to enter the European Union came at the expense of his country’s customs and traditions on one hand and Calculation of the principles of the Islamic religion on the other hand.
“It is necessary for homosexual rights to be recognized, and they should be protected even by the law in light of their rights and freedoms. I see that the treatment faced by homosexuals from time to time watching television is inhuman.” This was the response of Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Turkish President, to a young man’s question to him at a conference In August 2014, about the extent of his agreement to recognize gay rights in Turkey.
As for the rest of the Arab and Islamic countries, they are still opposed to recognizing the rights of homosexuals for the same religious and social considerations.
Psychotherapy through a psychotherapist:
Finally, what matters to us from the above is the treatment for those looking for treatment for homosexuality… There are several factors that you should take into consideration as a homosexual person who would like to give up this behavior in the following:
1) That you are convinced from inside you that it is abnormal behavior and that you want to get rid of it because of religious and social considerations and common sense.
2) That your age is not becoming so old that you have practiced that behavior for many years and many relationships, so that makes it difficult to change your feeling and transfer it to the opposite sex.
3) That you have the real drive to change and be fully convinced of your desire for change and not under pressure from family or society.
4) The duration of treatment is relatively long and the results depend on the previous factors combined or periodically.
In conclusion, know that psychiatry diagnoses Homosexuality as not a mental illness and has no drug treatment, but rather a behavioral disorder. Any bad or embarrassing habit that you want to quit it will not be quitting without your own will. If you want the change, you only want the diagnosis, which ignores religion in exchange for personal freedom.
