And we can say “a little bit of anxiety is OK” because it prepares the person to face daily life and makes him better prepared to ward off risks and master his various actions and actions … and daily life confronts us with many situations that require effort and the right response, and anxiety is a positive motivator to adapt to reality and its requirements .. and the problem lies When the amount of anxiety increases or persists for a long time .. Here anxiety is considered a disease and disorder .. Because it disrupts the human being and exhausts him and makes his daily life painful and annoying .. And makes his nerves tight and tense .. And the feeling of anxiety and anticipation for a long time leads to bad mood, fatigue and energy depletion And lack of productivity.
It should be noted that most societies have a diverse heritage related to methods that reduce anxiety and stress … such as recreation and entertainment, body and muscle massages, eating some drinks and herbs, as well as multiple religious and spiritual methods.
The modern era is described as the era of anxiety … because it contains rapid, sharp, and sudden changes … and it has various social, economic, technical, and intellectual crises and changes, and the modern person has to adapt to a number of variables and join them, and he is subject to constant anxiety, alienation, and frustration.
From the medical and psychological aspects, most mental disorders are associated with symptoms of anxiety as well as many physical diseases.
There is a group of mental disorders called anxiety disorders which are: generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, various pathological concerns such as market phobia and open spaces (Agoraphobia) Social phobia and specific concerns about animals, heights, enclosed spaces, planes, and other concerns, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Acute Stress Disorder, and more.
In all the previous disorders, we find that anxiety is the main symptom that unites them .. These disorders are widespread and do not cause severe disruption in thinking, such as delirious disorders such as schizophrenia or suspicion … They are generally classified as minor psychological disorders, distinguishing them from severe or mental disorders.
Specific anxiety disorders:
Anxiety disorders in the specific sense are: generalized anxiety disorder and panic disorder .. We will talk about them in detail later.
And also cases of adjustment disorders (Adjustment Disorders) that can take the form of symptoms of anxiety, stress and nervousness, and are the result of certain conditions or events, such as difficulties in adapting to the school or a new job or a new marital relationship or after the failure of an emotional relationship or financial crisis, and from that Exam anxiety when the time is approaching, and so on ..
There is also what is known as anxious avoidance personality and it is a type of chronic personality disorder, in which (Avoidant Personality Disorder) anxiety increases about many life matters, and it is afraid of criticism and lack of approval of its behavior, it is also very sensitive and looking for acceptance, and it avoids any renewal and discoveries in its general behavior . She is generally shy, calm and suppressed, and has a low self-esteem, and her lifestyle is limited because she requires constant assurance and safety.
Generalized Anxiety disorder:
General or generalized anxiety is a common disorder with a prevalence of about 5% of the population. It affects males and females in similar proportions. He is diagnosed in the presence of: excessive feeling of anticipation, fear, and preoccupation with the mind about multiple matters, with difficulty in controlling this feeling, and for a period of at least six months at most times, in addition to the presence of at least three symptoms of the following:
1- A feeling of tension, restlessness, discomfort and boiling (on my nerves all the time).
2- The speed of fatigue and exhaustion.
3- Difficulty concentrating or feeling the emptiness of the mind.
4- Nervousness, irritability and jittering.
5- Muscle tension (muscle pain, tension in the teeth, swinging sound).
6- Sleeping difficulties (insomnia, difficulty falling asleep, interrupted sleep and not being satisfied).
It is a common disorder with a prevalence of about 3-4%, and it is more prevalent in women and twice as much in men. In one-third or half of cases, it is associated with multiple pathological fear, market phobia, open spaces, and crowds (Agoraphobia), at which time its prevalence in women increases by three to one.
Panic attacks are considered a severe and terrifying condition that lasts for minutes and then disappears, during which the person suffers from severe terror, acute anxiety and discomfort, and the seizure reaches its climax within 10 minutes, which includes at least 4 of the following symptoms:
1- Heart palpitations or increased pulse.
2- Increased sweating.
3- Tremor or shivering sensation.
4- Difficulty breathing, impermeability and shortness of breath.
5- Feeling of suffocation and inability to catch oneself.
6- Chest pain or chest discomfort.
7- Nausea or stomach discomfort.
8- Feeling light-headed, imbalanced, or feeling faint.
9- Feeling of a change in personality (as if I am not me) or a change in the surrounding environment and its difference.
10- Fear of losing self control or fear of losing mind.
11- Fear of death approaching, feeling of approaching end and death.
12- Feeling of numbness and numbness in the body and extremities.
